Condrieu Chéry

Chéry är ett fylligt vin med underbart djup i frukten och med påtaglig mineralitet som ger fräschör och elegans. Ett dekadent och hedonistiskt vin och verkligen viognier i absolut världsklass.

Den brittiske Rhône-kännaren John Learmonth-Livingstone skriver i sin bok Wines of the Northern Rhône: "Put André Perret and the Coteau de Chéry together, and there are fireworks!".

2018

The Wine Advocate - 95 p - "Another terrific Condrieu from one of the appellation's acknowledged masters, the 2018 Condrieu Chery offers up floral scents alongside hints of crushed stone, a dusting of dried spices, and ripe apricot and melon notes. It's full-bodied and fleshy on the palate yet only weighs in at 14% alcohol. Long, refreshing and harmonious from start to finish, it's just a pleasure to drink, ending on gentle, lingering notes of stone dust. While there's no doubt that climate change and the recent warm-weather vintages have stressed out growers in Condrieu by narrowing the available picking windows—sometimes seemingly down to just hours—Perret seems able to thread that needle year in and year out. And if the Condrieus from the top sites of Clos Chanson and Chery are spectacular, the reds from Saint Joseph are underrated."

Jeb Dunnuck - 93-95 p - "The 2018 Condrieu Coteau de Chery boasts a mammoth bouquet of white currants, tangerines, crushed citrus, and toasted brioche. It’s a rich, full-bodied, powerful Condrieu that somehow stays flawlessly balanced and light on its feet."

Vinous - 95 p - "Translucent yellow. Seductively perfumed aromas of passion fruit, pear nectar, white peach and orange zest, along with suggestions of jasmine and tarragon. At once concentrated and lively, offering vibrant, mineral-laced orchard and pit fruit flavors that are complicated by a suave, steadily building floral nuance. Finishes with a strong jolt of minerality, repeating florality and noteworthy persistence. This wine's blend of power and finesse is quite something."

John Learmonth-Livingstone - 4,5/5 - "Fine yellow, shiny robe. Honeysuckle, jasmin flowers, delicacy on the nose; also pear, white plum with a hint of smoke. It’s a graceful opening. The palate is also very shapely, more refined than some vintages, with pinpoint hand out of white fruits including apricot, real elegance in it. The 2017 was more on strength than this. It ends with fine detail, a tiny note of mineral clarity, a dab of citrus. This stands out due to its finesse in this hot vintage. It has the freshness for at least 10 years of life."

2019

The Wine Advocate - 96 p - "From 80-year-old vines facing south-southwest, the 2019 Condrieu Chery takes all the laudable aspects of the stellar 2018 and turns the volume up to 11. Flowers, crushed stone, dried spices and ripe apricots all show up on the nose and full-bodied, fleshy palate. Rich and textural without ever seeming overdone or heavy, it's a magnificent effort."

Jeb Dunnuck - 98 p - "A bigger, richer wine and just about pure perfection, the 2019 Condrieu Chery is full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, with incredible purity as well as length. Lots of peach, lychee, pineapple, and exotic flowers notes, as well as fabulous minerality, define the aromatics and I seriously considered a triple digit rating on the beauty. Perfectly balanced, with a distinct sense of salinity on the finish, readers should beg, borrow, or steal to try this incredible Condrieu."

Decanter - 95 p - "A touch of VA helps lift the aromas. The acidity is quite marked for a 2019. Intense peach and apricot, apricot nectar. Very long finish. Great precision, well balanced and fresh, keen, with a saline finish."

Vinous - 95-96 p - "Vivid, green-tinged yellow. Expansive orchard, citrus fruit, melon and floral aromas are sharpened by notes of smoky minerals and lemon zest. Concentrated pear, Meyer lemon and violet pastille flavors show a suave blend of richness and delicacy thanks to a core of juicy acidity and an emerging mineral nuance. Closes juicy, taut and extremely long, leaving a sexy floral note behind."

Wine & Spirits Magazine - 95 p - "André Perret has been working in Condrieu since the 1980s, back when many growers had given up working the steep slopes for less physically challenging jobs. This wine comes from his 50-year-old viognier vines at Chéry, a south-facing patch of granite and mica-schist. Vinified one-third in stainless-steel tanks, the rest in oak, the wine is perfectly balanced between honeysuckle florals, golden peach-and-apricot flavor and firm, savory minerality. Powerful yet restrained, it lasts for days after opening, remaining fresh and clean—a sure sign that it will age well in bottle."

John Learmonth-Livingstone - 4,5/5 - "Steady yellow robe; the bouquet holds back, has ripe depth that is well channelled, an air of apricot, aniseed, pastis, hints of white pepper. The palate is most pleasing, a flowing serving of rich, rolling content, pear, peach flavours to the fore. This is soil-to-glass-transfer Chéry, has swallowed the vintage well, is a really good do. The length is excellent."

La Revue du Vin de France - 94 p - "Chéry monte en intensité et en puissance, sans pour autant s'alourdir. Très grande définition et finale saline digeste. Belle complexité."

2020

Jeb Dunnuck - 95 p - "The 2020 Condrieu Chery doesn't have the sheer richness of the Chanson and is more mineral-laced, with a gorgeous perfume of white peach, tangerine, pineapple, and chalky minerality. Medium to full-bodied, this balanced, sensationally pure Condrieu will put on a touch of richness with a year in bottle and will keep nicely for 7-8 years. It's another incredible effort from one of the masters of the variety!"

Decanter - 96 p - "This Chéry cuvée certainly has greater aromatic intensity than André's cuvée classique. It's very well balanced and vibrant, with surprising concentration on the palate. Lovely, bright acidity and a mineral touch leads to a long finish. A very promising Chéry at this stage. 20% new oak."

John Learmonth-Livingstone - 4,5/5 - "Yellow robe; lavender, white tobacco, peach airs feature in a varied nose, which is deep and holds its shape. The palate runs with good assurance, attractively shaped richness, which is nicely enrobed, lengthens with a sure hand, less on power than Chanson 2020. There are near greenage and lime moments here on the inside, fine dainty moments towards the finish."

2021

Jeb Dunnuck - 95 p - "The 2021 Condrieu Chery is also gorgeous, and it has a slightly fresher, more focused profile. Orange blossoms, white flowers, and more chalky minerality all define this medium to full-bodied, fresh, focused, beautifully balanced 2021. It too will shine for 7-8 years, if not longer, although I see no reason to hold off more than a year or two."

Decanter - 97 p - "Beautifully measured. Perret avoids any excess fat, oak or alcohol to produce a particularly charming, effortless style. So vibrant with fresh acidity and a perfumed finish; not as concentrated as his 2020, but brighter."

Vinous - 94 p - "The 2021 Condrieu Chéry is an athletic Viognier, neatly capturing energy and freshness. Banana, apricot, peach, vanilla, blossom and honeysuckle all race out of the glass. Medium-bodied at most, it concludes with solid persistence on the stimulating finale."

John Learmonth-Livingstone - 5/5 - "Clear yellow robe. The nose gives a pinpoint pear air, dried flowers, pot pourri, lime and wisteria flowers: it’s just sorting itself out. The palate serves fluid richness on debut, comes with several layers, has spine, a direct line of approach, a belle structure, the shape of a red wine. It lengthens on tannin; inside it’s firm, resolute, and intense towards the finish. Wait for this: from 2025 to 2040."

2022

Jeb Dunnuck - 97 p - "Where the Chanson is a step down over the 2021, this 2022 Condrieu Chery is clearly a step up and has Chateau Grillet-like aromas and flavors of white peach, honeyed flowers, incredible minerality, and a kiss of rose petals. This medium to full-bodied, salty, mineral-laced, incredibly pure Condrieu is absolutely magical today yet will easily evolve for a decade. Unquestionably, some of my favorite Condrieu, as well as Saint-Joseph, emerges from this tiny estate located off route N7, just south of Condrieu. Releasing three Condrieu, you can’t go wrong with any of them, and the base cuvée is well worth a case purchase each year. The two single vineyards always bring more richness and complexity, but they both have their own style depending on the vintage."

Yohan Castaing, The Wine Advocate - 96 p - "Perret's emblematic cuvée, the 2022 Condrieu Chery, is purer and more ethereal than Clos Chanson due to its granite and sandy soils. Evoking aromas of pear, menthol, white peach, flowers and delicate notes of spices, it's full-bodied, satiny and enveloping with a multidimensional but weightless core of fruit, racy acids and a long, precise and intensely mineral, saline and vibrant finish. Currently structured and reserved, its evolution in the bottle promises to be compelling. This is a must-have for aficionados of profound, precise and pure Rhône Valley whites."

Vinous - 94 p - "The 2022 Condrieu Chéry deserves a round of applause. Vinified from just-ripe viognier grapes harvested on the 24th of August, it dazzles with pronounced intensity of lemon flesh, apricot, white peach, ripe pear, cedar and quince. Banana and melon lend tropical gradations. Despite the fairly warm and dry vintage, the 2022 captures the freshness remarkably well. Landing on a complex finish, this Condrieu is built for the long haul and comes highly recommended."

John Learmonth-Livingstone - 5/5 - "Yellow robe; the nose assembles toasting, orange marmalade, a very fine air of pear, with white Mirabelle plum, apricot, notes of oak-varnish. The palate has a fine tuned opening, with a mineral thread that works well, holds its line with discreet spine, an important role for its definition. It’s a bit more complex than the Chanson 2022, a high interest Condrieu, rich, calm, not overdone. The finish is classy, pitter patter softness there. 14°. Harvested 24 Aug 2022, my goodness, that is early. Drink 2025 to 2037."
